Enduring Understandings
At the end of the lessons, students should have a basic understanding of the following concepts:
1. When an animal is extinct, it means that the species has been eliminated and every animal of its kind has died. Endangered animals are those that may become extinct in the near future. Threatened animals are those that may become endangered in the near future.
2. Animals become threatened, endangered and extinct for many reasons, including habitat loss, pollution, overhunting or overfishing, competition with other animals, disease and disruption of the food chain.
3. Human actions can prevent the extinction of endangered animals.
4. The engineering design process can be used to develop solutions to real-world problems.
